My Training

I am incredibly grateful to have had exceptional, highly specialized training throughout my career.  I am also committed to being a life-long learner and will continue to pursue new learning opportunities in order to enhance my therapeutic skill and provide you with the best care.

 

My training began at Elon University where I obtained a Bachelor's of Arts Degree with a Major in Human Services and double-Minor in Psychology and Religious Studies.  From there, I attended the University of Chicago where I obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work with a clinical focus and specialization in Evidence Based Practices.  While there, I was an intern at Children's Memorial Hospital in the Department of Psychiatry.  Since graduating, I have had many opportunities to continue to enhance my learning; they are listed below.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Training with the creator of ACT, Steve Hayes, PhD

    • 4 day in-person training

    • 21 hour ACT Immersion course

  • Training with Kelly Wilson, PhD, co-creator of ACT

    • Two, 3 day in-person trainings

  • Member of ACT at Duke

    • Led by Rhonda Merwin, PhD (ACT expert and former student of Kelly Wilson)

    • Didactic and consultation

  • Supervision by ACT therapists Danny Merwin & Catherine Clemmer (2008-2009)

  • ACT Supervision Consultation Group through ACBS

  • Paul Holmes 3rd Wave Psychotherapy Course at the University of Chicago (2008)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Therapist for 12 years in the Cognitive Behavioral Research and Treatment Program at Duke University Medical Center where we exclusively utilized 2nd and 3rd wave CBTs.

  • Duke Advanced CBT Blended Learning with Zach Rosenthal, PhD (CBT & DBT expert)

  • Worked as a CBT therapist on a treatment study doing CBT for individuals with co-morbid depression and chronic medical conditions.  Sessions were viewed and rated to adherence prior to starting and throughout the randomized-control trial.

  • Member of trauma-specific consultation team 2018-2019 focused on using CBTs led by Noga Zerubavel, PhD (trauma expert)

  • Founder, leader, and member of an interdisciplinary consultation team 2012-current.

  • Intensive Training by Zach Rosenthal, PhD in 2009

  • Intensive Training at the Cognitive Behavioral Research and Treatment Program in 2016
