Treatment Approach

At Flourish, we are committed to utilizing evidence-based practices that are individualized to meet your needs, in order to ensure that you get the best care possible.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the gold-standard evidence based treatment, and is now comprised of a "family" of CBTs. Second Wave CBTs seek to change thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.  Third wave therapies acknowledge that we cannot always change thoughts, but we can change the relationship we have with our thoughts.  Third wave therapies are also present-moment focused and incorporate mindfulness practices. As a practice, we are competent at providing all of the CBTs listed below. A recommendation for which treatment seems to be the best fit for your care will be made following an intake evaluation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a skills based therapy that intervenes in thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT is a third wave therapy that fundamentally begins from a different place than other therapies: a belief that difficult emotions and suffering are a normal part of the human experience.  ACT seeks to increase psychological flexibility (the ability to have thoughts, feelings, body sensations, urges, etc as they are and as they come) through the use of present moment focus, values clarification, committed action, diffusion, self in context, and acceptance.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills

DBT is a third wave therapy that is designed to help individuals to more effectively regulate their emotions.  It is a skills based treatment that focuses on four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation.  Note: Flourish does not currently offer individual or full model DBT.  Flourish, will, however, offer individual DBT skills training and incorporate skills training when deemed helpful or appropriate based on the treatment plan.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

CPT is a specific type of CBT that helps individuals learn how to identify and modify thoughts related to a traumatic experience.
